Systems Sound Card Issues?

Hello All,

This is my first post... I hope I get everything right...

For some time now I have run into problems while playing games. Sometimes when I am playing a game like Morrowind (problem occurs most frequently here) the game will crash right in and I get a BSOD. On some other games I will be playing and the game will freeze and the sound that was just playing will play over and over again. At first I thought that it might have been a graphics card problem, but I am wondering if it is sound related?

My set up =
AMD Athlon T-Bird 1.2
Asus A7V
384 SDRAM
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128
Sound Blaster 16PCI

I have downloaded the most recent drivers, bought a new 350W power supply, lowered video setting, prayed over my computer, pulled my hair out, and pretty much everything I can think of. Anyone know what to do?

Also, is the Sound Blaster DirectX 8.1 compatible?

Thanks!
Matt

It should be compatible, it's not made for direct x 8, but that may not be the problem. ]
it maybe the drivers as it is an old sound card. Try disabling the card altogether and play a game.
Have you tried the latest update for the game?
Heck it could even be the memory or even not enough memory, it's a good amount of mem, but morrowind is a heavy game.
what version of windows are you running?

I am running Windows XP, and I have purchased the expansion packs to both games, so I think I am running with the latest versions of it.

I will try disabling the sound card as that is something I haven't tried yet. I hae tried to download the latest drivers for the card but I think the most recent are still like 2 years old.

Anyway, thanks for the reply Jeordiewhite

Ya know what I've been having problems with in Windows XP lately? Chipset drivers. The nForce2 system I just built today will not hold the latest drivers from nVidia. BSOD everyboot, no escaping even in safe mode since the updated drivers. I've had similar problems to what you are experiencing in my KT133a motherboards when installing the latest VIA4in1. Everything starts to go wrong in those systems, and only a reinstall will fix, as trying to override the drivers from the motherboard driver cd's doesn't work 100%.

Anyway, have you updated the VIA drivers? Could very well be the problem. Let XP use it's native drivers for that chipset, as they were made well after KT133a was released.
