Yep .. now AOL owned NullSoft is working on WinAmp 5!!

What happened to 4?
Well .. they realized Winamp 3 was bloated and slow and never really 'caught on' so they're going back to Winamp2, and creating a new version based on 2 with parts of winamp3... 2+3 = 5... (not my idea!)

Hope it works out, the other media players are HUGE and way over loaded with BS I don't want.. I like winamp

Probably because the original founder and creator of Nullsoft/Winamp left the project recently and, like with what happened to Netscape, they're going off old source and "skipping" a version

I don't mind Winamp 3.. it may be a bit slow at times loading and what not but the skins are pretty good and it does a good job for what it's supposed to do.

I'm still using winamp 2.81 and am not planning on upgrading, it does it's job, and does it great.

If newer versions=stuff I don't need/want, I'll skip any upgrade.

I just want to see a better video player in 5. But primarily bassed off of 2 and also be able to run it in your sys tray rather than filling up your task bar.

I dont think so. I run but 2 and 3 but mainly use 2 becaue its stable and 3 for quick vedio viewing.

Oh yeah. Winamp 2 is something almost always stays in my system tray. Unless I'm gaming it's there. I can't say much for 3 since I haven't tried it in over a year. I just imagine them improving on 2 that much..
