win98se and winxp pro partition help!!!!

Hello all,

I need some help here.. I want to put win98se and winxp pro on my comp... It is already partitioned and need help to put win98se and winxp pro on it the right way... Will this affect my other comp they are networked? They both have winxp pro on them now, only one is partitioned... I need win98se for some programs I have that are not big programs either..

Partition is a small set up
C: is only 6.8 GB's and
E: is only 2.3 GB's
Is that workable?

P.S.
Total noob to this area of computers

Thanks

If you install 98 first to the c partition, then XP to e you should be fine - although 2.3GB for XP is rather small if you install other programs on it.

After installing 98 and you start the XP installation it will detect your partitions and ask you where you what partition you want to install XP on - choose your e.

Note: it won't affect howyour network is but if the c partition is formatted as FAT32 and the e partition is NTFS, you will not be able to see the e partition while booted to 98.

Hope that helps some!

Mike

Just run FDISK and make the first partition for Windows 98 (you can leave the rest unpartitioned), then proceed to install Win98...when that's done boot up to the Windows XP CD and when you get to the part for partitioning just create a partition and format/install on the space left after the Windows 98 partition.

You'll need a little more than 2.3gb for the Windows XP partition though...3gb should cover it, but since you don't need much space for Windows 98 programs then you should make that partition fairly small...it only requires a few hundred MB to install...so leave maybe 1.5gb

Your other computers shouldn't be affected by you dual booting.

I take it the the 6.8GB HDD is going to house XP and the 2.3GB HDD is going to house 98SE?

Keep in mind, in order to do it that way, C: will HAVE to be FAT32, 98SE has to put some files on the C: drive in order to boot. Your setup is actually a good idea, especially if you're not going to be using 98SE that much. No sense on putting it in the first part of the drive, put the one your going to use the most so it will be faster.

Also keep in mind, you'll have to install 98 first, then XP. XP will recognize that you have 98SE and will add it to the boot loader so you can choose between the two during boot up.
