v.92 Modem (USR5610B)- Good Idea?

Being unemployed still, i dont have broadband..as such, i need a reliable dialup modem (no winmodems) for an A7n8x Deluxe with WinXP-Sp1..

I've read mixed reviews on this everywhere, so im appealing to the techimo peepz to help me settle on this US Robotics USR5610B 56K V.92 Internal PCI.

Is this 72$ purchase from NewEgg.com a good idea?

Comments/suggestions/links/reviews welcomed.

That card's a nice hardware 3Com modem. I'm using a card 2 revisions older, just a plain 5610, and it's worked great for me when I've had to use it.

If you check ebay, and don't mind using a used modem, you could get one for less than half that. I paid around 30 for mine.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 5610A modems, while they might only be v.90, have flashable firmware so they can be upgraded to v.92 easily. You might be able to find one of those for far cheaper.

If you want to go cheaper like Nighthawk said get a USR5610A, then download the USR ControlCenter, which will download the newest firmware that will make your V.90 5610A a full V.92 5610B. That's what I did.

Works great (well, as great as a modem can...)
