Please help with this website...
Ok Ladies, I need a little advice on this one. I'm not trying to win a website contest or anything, but I could use your help. I just sent the site (recently updated by me) to my g/f who is in TN with her family using a dialup modem. It seemed like it took FOREVER for the site to load for her to see...PS is showing me that it will take approx 147 seconds over a 28.8 modem. http://members.cox.net/mikeandtamara/index.htm
(please view the NEWS page as well)
I like the images/pics and would prefer that they stay. However, what can I do to make it fit the average desktop? I'm using 1152x864 and even I have to scroll just a tad to the right to see it all, even though it's just extra white space.
I'm new at this, so speak English...don't advise me that the argulated pixel distortion map isn't properly calibrated or some crap like that, ok?
Thanks as always!
Mike

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I'm sure it's table related somehow...I kept splitting cells to add little images on either side of the centered images/text, but the page expanded too far to the right.
Hmm...

Wow, I can't believe FrontPage generated code like that. Maybe that's why everyone says it bloats code, but mine never does all that.
Anyway, it's probably mostly because of those images you added to the sides. All of the "Tamara Conley"s. I'd either make them a lot smaller, or drop them completely. Probably make them smaller considering you obviously put them there for a reason.
Not that it's any real problem, but a lot of the fonts you used probably aren't supported on her computer either. The lettering will still show up, but it'll be Times New Roman or Arial or something of the sort, JFYI.

Ahhh...the fonts! Good point, I never really thought about it...I'll shrink the images a little to see if that helps.
How was the loading speed and what type of connection do you have?
Thanks!
Mike
(I'll check back tomorrow, I'm going to bed)

sorry, on cable, loading speed wasn't an issue.
Question...that's a pretty cool effect on the last picture, the one named 3x53Dkiss, how's that done?

Just a couple of thoughts after skimming the HTML....
Remove all image width and height tags for better scaling with some browsers, as they can blow out large images when browsing with low resolutions.
Also add up the table widths and be sure they do not exceed the desirable resolution. Depending upon how much effort you want to expend, I would recommend changing all table widths and heights to percentages, thus increasing scaling efficiency for multiple resolutions.
BTW, loaded relatively fast for me, even with my 56k connect.

Well it is a bit big for a web page, 13Kb of HTML is OK, but 274Kb of images - no wonder it take time to download over a slow link like mine. Say 3-4Kb/sec, that's the best part of a minute, or more.
I was told that a good rule of thumb was that people lose interest in waiting for your page after about 10 seconds.

I appreciate the info though...so how would I go about cutting down the total image size? Like I said, we like having the clipart/pics up on that first page.
RobRich, thanks for checking out the loading time. I'll have a closer look at those tables tonight, maybe I'll get the width problem straightened out then.
