Kids GeForce4 problem

WAsap ,

i just bought a GeForce4 MX 440 SE 64mb PCI for my old emachine 400i,i plugged in the card, without the intregrated video disabled, and it got to the desktop, inserted the cd and installed the drivers, but it wasent driving the card,it stayed at 16 colors and 640x480res but it said the drivers had installed, after i reboot. ,well i followed directions the next time, first disabling the integrated video on the motherboard(i did this manualy)plus everything in bios that needed changed such as PCI slot was set, then i was to plug in the card,at the first of boot it showed the card specs,so i was guessing it worked,it gets to the windows splash screen and freezes,it cranks a few times then stops. So i am guessing i should leave the integrated video on and install again?i have tried installing in safe mode but it does not detect my D: drive...
thanks to any help

Try uninstalling the drivers, then boot up windows with the onboard video disabled & using the gf4 as your video card. Windows should load up generic vga drivers that will work with the gf4, once your in windows using the gf4 & the generic drivers, install the gf4 drivers. Reboot and see how that goes.

If the fact that it won't detect your D drive in safe mode prevents you from installing the drivers, simply start the machine with onboard video, copy the entire CD to a directory on your HD, then restart with the new video card.

Switching back to the standard PCI VGA Adapter should allow you to boot at 640x480@16 colors, with any functional video card.
