SATA PROBLEM! PLEASE HELP! :(

I bought one 80GB SATA HD from Seagate (Model:ST380023AS),

but I donīt have the slightest idea on how to install it!

It doesnīt show up in the BIOS, and Seagateīs DISC WIZARD

didnīt help at all, my Motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X - Deluxe,

changed the jumper to SATA and all.

Canīt create RAID 0 cause I only have 1 HD!!

I would appreciate it very much if someone could help.

Immediately after the POST you'll see a screen with info about the SATA adapter on the board...I can't remember what button it says to push..but it's there..that should help you.

You can try entering the setup for building a raid array and try to build a one disk array... I can do it on my Asus P4PE with a Promise controller, so maybe that will get your MB to see it.

Do you have it connected to the SATA recepticle on the MB using an SATA cable and power adapter that come with the Seagate HD?

Try going into your main system BIOS and see if there's a setting to enable the SerialATA controller and to set it into RAID mode or not.

On my NF7-S, the SATA controller BIOS pops up right after the main BIOS POSTs the RAM and checks the IDE devices. I don't remember what the key sequence is, but if you hit the Pause button (same row as print screen and scroll lock) it'll wait for you to hit another key so you could at least read what it was displaying.

Nighthawk is on the right track... you do have to enable the promise controller in the Bios setup and you should also set the boot sequence to look for the DVD-Rom then the serial or scsi drive in the Boot section of your Bios.

My SATA drives don't show in the Post screen at bootup, but if you hit F6 and enter the Raid setup program you should see your one drive there... set it up for a Raid o+1 array and if you are then installing Win XP, boot from the CD and in the setup process you'll have to install the Promise raid drivers ( setup pauses so you can hit the right key).

Download the Promise controller drivers and put them on a floppy so you'll have them ready, Win XP installs them from the floppy and then you can resume installation of the OS.

Sorry to pop into your thread bmfo3 like this but if you read some of the other posts from Harald 7 you will see that he is right. I for my part would like to ask Harald 7 a question. I have noticed that your system is similar to mine ( P4PE, 2 Seagate Barracuda V SATA HDDs set at RAID 0 )and I have been trying to find out why my system only recognises my HDDs as UDMA 5. I have installed the PAM Utility from Promise and that sees them set at UDMA 5 also. These are genuine SATA on the PDC 20376 onboard SATA/RAID controller and should be recognised as such. Harald7 maybe you would be so good as to inform me what your FastTrak Utility sees.
Thanks in advance and if necessary I will start a new thread with this subject.
Once again bfmo3 I apologise profusely but I have been chasing down this problem for 2 weeks and Harald7 seems to be a well informed man on this subject.

I'm not familiar with the PAM utility you referred to, the Promise site explicitly says that they do not provide support for Promise on-board SATA contolllers.

In Device Manager, my Drives show up as SCSI devices... Promise 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk, does yours show the same?

I'm not sure if the PAM utility is a reliable tool for benchmarking your RAID setup... try downloading SiSoftware Sandra 2003 http://www.sisoftware.net/ and then running the file system benchmark test.

I get a value of around 48000 when I run the File System benchmark with my RAID array and yours should perform in that general area as well.
