Radeon 9800 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900

Well, It's that time again. I'm gonna build a new computer. But I haven't been able to decide which card to buy. I was going to go ATI but I've heard Nvidia has been recovering from the failure of its first GeForce FX cards and that their 5900 is the way to go now. What do you think?

If i had to do it... Id buy the 5900....

I read an article... the Radeon is 11% faster... but its at such a high rate... thats only like 5 fps more.... but the Nvidia delivers better graphics due to its faster memory banks...

See Radeon is upgrading its CPU over and over... where they lack is the RAM speed...

Nvidia has a awesome new CPU and awesome memory bandwidth...

Even though the Radeon is faster

Id still buy the FX

pshooo... man ferrari or lamborghini?

personally, id grab the ATI, just because you don't have to download non WHQL certified drivers from Nvidia... im still waiting for mine to fake 32 bit color Nvidia seems[ed] to be willing to cheat in public just to look as good as ATI.

from what i understand, the 5900 Ultra suffers some heat problems because of the DDR II ram onboard. might not be a good choice if your PC is in a warm/hot environment.

Who really needs WHQL certified drivers...honestly the ones that aren't certefied are better...I turn that stupid service off anyway.

The 5900 Ultra doesn't have DDR II...from what I understand.....still it'll be much better after nVidia has time to tweak drivers...like they always do

I guess it does...I could have sworn I read they took it out of the 5900 Ultra...hmm Maybe it was something else.

Nvidia cheats on benchmarking scores.

Yes Telexen is correct!

The FX5900 Ultra does NOT HAVE DDRII memory.
Only the FX5800 Ultra did and it also is the one that has the High Heat problem (not to mention the noise also).

The FX5900 Ultra actually is QUIETER than the Ti4600 I had.
It runs sweet.
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra doubles the size of the memory interface to 256 bits, boosting peak memory to 27.2GB/sec; the highest figure in the industry.

e-VGA is the first on the market with the FX5900Ultra
The e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card, eVGA has bumped the core clock frequency to 500MHz. Yes, you read that correctly, 500MHz! As a result, the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra matches the fill rate of GeForce FX 5800 Ultra, arguably the 5800's biggest highlight. On top of the higher core clock speed, eVGA boosts the memory clock frequency to 900MHz. This feature nets the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra an additional 1.6GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

I am pretty much impartial.
Drivers are not an issue with ATI anymore. However, nVidia will get more out the card as they update theirs... and 5fps can be made up...
Both are top notch cards. So is a case of price/deal and preference. If I had the cash, a 5900 I would buy. But I dont, so I shall crawl back into my hole.
Goodmorning!

this is a real toss up for me . i would go with the 9800 i would think . and the only reason is cost . the preformance of both cards is so good you can't see any difference . lets face it can you tell the difference between 125fps and 175fps ? a 9800 pro 128mb is about 350$ and fx5900 is 400$ a 9800pro 256 meg is 385$ and a fx5900 is 405$ .
