I Can't Remove LILO!

I installed Mandrake 9.1 on this computer a while back. I no longer need it on this one (don't worry, it's still installed on my server). Attempts at getting rid of LILO have been unsuccessful. I've tried

1) fdisk /mbr (from a DOS boot disk); I get The master boot code has NOT been updated. That has always worked in the past.

2) FIXMBR (from XP's Recovery Console); that does nothing.

Thanks in advance for the help.

[EDIT]

I just noticed that I didn't use a /boot partition in this installation. Would that have something to do with it?

My best guess would be some sort of boot sector virus protection enabled in the BIOS.

There's really no reason why "FDISK/MBR" won't blow away the LILO.

Rick is correct, FDISK will always overwrite the MBR unless a BIOS virus protection routine is enabled. Has happened to me before...

My hard disk is connected to a Promise Ultra133 TX2 controller card, so that would be unaffected by anything in the BIOS (which doesn't have that option enabled, anyway).

Work

LOL, you guys steered me into the right direction! I unplugged the drive and plugged it into one of my motherboard IDE ports. "fdisk /mbr" was successful!
