Phillips Seismic Edge
I purchased this sound card a while back. It is a 4.1 channel PSC 704 version. I am about to finally install it into my system and give it a try. I was wondering if anyone else is using this card and if so, how do you like it? What is its strengths or weaknesses? Do you have any suggestions regarding set up or tweaking this card? I like to listen to cd's and think I might break into the MP3 scene.
Thanks for any comments!

i grabbed one of those about 2 weeks ago, and was pretty happy with it, except the fact that the nice configuration software is a demo [HA! you have to pay AGAIN just to use the damned thing] As for encoding standard stereo to 4.1 it does a pretty good job. In games it does NOT use 4.1, rather, just your front speakers will work. that was probably the biggest disappointment to me.
then i got my 8rda+ and changed it to a 4.1 [5.1 optional] and it does everything.
pretty much for your uses, that card is perfect.

The Edge series offers a nice hardware accelerated DSP. The output is above average compared to most similary priced cards, and the distortion levels are rather low.
I actually use a Sonic Edge for my audio captures, as it delivers extremely low distortion and great frequency response. Essentially the same DSP chipset as the Seismic Edge, just a different output configuration.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am fixing to install an Adaptec 1200A and configure RAID 0, so, I think now is just as good a time to try it out as any. I wonder why 4.1 won't work with games? Although I am not an avid gamer, that does kinda suck. I was thinking about throwing it into my boy's computer if it works well. They are big time gamers, but, I doubt they will like that much. Oh, well, I suppose it is a good reason to buy another card Gotta have something to tell the wife to justify a new purchase

I would just like to mention that this card is great for music. I had a little trouble getting the card to work right in my system. Had to finally switch pci slots. Drivers would not load until I did. But, once I finally got it set up, it was work it. Sound is great with cd playback. I haven't tried a game yet. But, I just downloaded a few demos and am going to give it a try.

Heres another question, how does the Philips card compare to Soundstorm? specifically the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo. Ive heard good things about this card and its only about $30 (I cant believe I payed $100+ in the past for an Audigy!). So far Ive read reviews saying its great for music and thats primarily what I care about. Im trying to squeeze every little bit of performance as possible since I have better than average equipment and $30 is a very cheap upgrade to me, any of you guys have any opinions?

Downside:
No Linux drivers, AFAIK.
Philips has not released any of the specs on any of their cards for Linux driver development.
Granted, this is only matters if you, in fact, use Linux presently on this box.

I bought that card a while ago, I thought the card was just as good as any SBL, But the fetures and drivers were horrible. So I traded it to some dude for a 20 Gb HDD, And bought a Creative SBL! Platinum.
