MSI NForce2 and graphics problem...

hey yall. my friend has a msi nforce2 K7N2G-L MS-6570 and it has onboard video. he wants to install a geforce fx in it and he cant get it to work. the problem is that we cant get the mobo to recognize that there is a card in there versus the onboard. we have tried every setting in the bios that is video related and no luck. there are no mobo jumpers for this either. we even flashed the bios to a newer version but still nothing. we have tried using a geforce 3 ti200, a gf4 ti4200, and the gf fx. nothing will work. when we put a card in, the onboard video stops but the card will not display anything and we get an error beep. his DLED on the mobo shows all green for os boot so the pc is working but no video.

anybody know how to fix this? we have tried everything we can think of... from what i hear this is a fairly common problem.

Ok

I know you said you have tried just about all the settings in the BIOS for the video.
I have a K7N2 Delta Series which has almost the same BIOS setup.

1. Install the AGP video card ( what type of FX is it? )
2. Boot the puter and jump into the Bios.
3. I recommend you select 'Load Bios setup Defaults'
4. In 'Advanced Chipset Features' make sure the 'FSB' is set to correct speed compared to type of RAM (2x the number = FSB)
5. 'AGP 8x Support' select 'Disable' (tip from poopeyhed2)
6. Go to 'Integrated Peripherals' (hmm it doesn't show in online manual) and goto 'Onboard Device'
7. Here you should have the onboard video listed and select 'Disable'
8. Esc (once) back to the menu and then select 'Init Display First' and change it to 'AGP Slot'
these should be the only changes you need to make to the BIOS for now
9. Esc to Main menu and "Exit Saving Changes"

When Windows fires up it should detect the Video card and load the drivers.

I also want to add, if the computer Power Supply is less than 350W and you are installing a FX card that needs power, that could be a problem for you.

Hope this helps to get you going

Thanks Omardeth, almost the same motherboard, but the BIOS setups are almost identical and since cracked is trying to install a FX video card, I am pretty much now a well informed authority for MSI Boards and GeForce FX cards.....lol

By the way, my system has not missed a beat and the FX5900 Ultra is just beautiful.
I have emailed MSI about the 8X AGP problem, and will just wait and see if a fix comes out any time soon.
Thanks again for your suggestions, they confirmed that I was doing everything possible correctly and that I was not going crazy.
