Don't hit a key when it says to. Just let it go on its own.

Can you boot from the CD? If so, boot from it, press a key when prompted, let it do its thing, create a partition and such, then when it reboots itself, leave the CD in and dont press a key. If installing from floppy it should prompt you to remove it.

NTFS cuz it has all the benefits...such as encryption, compression, security thru permissions etc etc etc.

The only real reason to use fat32 is if you are dual booting and you want to be able to read the xp stuff from the w98 install etc.

I had the same problem about 2 hours ago. Same error as you. I was loading XP professional from a backup. Ticking me off big time.

So, what I did just for profanity deleted and grins was load XP Home edition from the ORIGINAL CD, and it loaded flawlessly. Then stuck my XP Professional backup in, and upgraded. It worked.

What's the morale of the story? Heck, I don't know. 1) Are you installing XP professional or home? 2) Is it an original or a backup?
