Talk Building My New PC!

This is the first time I've ever built a PC, and I'd like to know if all the parts I've selected are compatible with each other, I'm pretty sure they are, but I need to double-check before I go and buy them. Please look at my specs below:

Asus A7V8X-X Socket A Motherboard $68.99
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 266FSB $85.00
Samsung 80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive $75.00
Crucial 512MB PC2700 DDR Memory $70.99
Lite On 48x/24x/48x CD-RW 16x DVD-ROM Combo Drive $63.00
Samsung 1.44MB Black Floppy Drive $8.00
ATI Radeon 9500 64MB DDR AGP 8x Bulk $123.00
Aopen Speakers $20.00
Zippy WK-88 Black Keyboard $10.99
Logitech Black Optical Wheel Mouse $12.00
NEC MultiSync FE770-BK Black 17" Monitor $159.00

$695.97 w/o shipping
$725.97 w/ shipping

Please tell me, thanks!
Remember, I'm a first-time builder and only 13 years old, heh.

Thanks jerry!

Also, I was wondering if I should get a nVidia GeForceFX 5200 128MB for $70 instead of the ATI Radeon 9500 64MB for $130. Seems like a very good deal, but I don't know much about the GeForce FX.

I'd suggest a cheaper mobo, like the K7S5A Pro. Definately get a non-stock HS and fan for the processor, like the Vantec Aero 7. Its $27 I think. If I were you, I'd stick with either Maxtor or Western Digital on the hard drive. I'd also step away from a combo DVD/CD-RW drive, get two seperate drives and make yourself happy. For $119 you can get a Albatron GF4 ti4280 instead of that Radeon 9500. I'd get the GF4 instead if I were you. And AOpen speakers? If your going cheap get those Harmon/Karden 19.5's. They are $7 and much better than anything AOpen. Ortek makes a $6 black keyboard, I'd go with that instead. I prefer MS mice over logitec, but if you like it, go with it. Excellent choice on the monitor!

Everything you mentioned will work together, but some things could be improved.

Also, what case and case fans did you pick out? Air flow is essential with AMD CPUs.

well if we're doing everything he could do different then.....

1.dont like that motherboard and 400 cipset doesn't help if your going with 333 mem anyway
2.buy processor oem as you dont want to use retail heatsink anyway
3.hd should be maxtor, seagate, or wd - you can get WD for 1 dollar cheeper anway
4.jerry found u nice price on ram
5.combo drive is ok if u dont want to copy discs - if you do its a pain cause u gotta write to image and then to disc which takes longer and involves more effort
6.make sure black matches - dont wanna be buying that by mistake
7.i like 9500 but would recomend 128 for 16 bucks more
8.labtec do nice cheep speakers
9&10.once again make sure u want black
11.moniter is good

case - well i never used that case and it doesn't say much - no idea how many back or front fans and 350 should be fine as long as its a decent brand

nice case! I'd suggest a larger PSU though. Go with this one:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=17-154-010

Heres a link to the K7S5A Pro:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=13-135-126

The Vantec cooler:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=35-110-007

The 80GB HD:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=22-144-122

the DVD:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=27-151-027

the CD-RW:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=27-106-197

the GF4 ti4200:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=14-170-017

H/K speaks:

http://directron.com/hk195.html

black keyboard:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=23-134-001

Also, it would be wise to get two or three case fans. i'd suggest these:

Blue - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=11-999-631

Red - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=11-999-628

Green - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=11-999-631

Good luck on the build!

if you get k7s5a u can go with cheeper ram as it doesn't go up to 333 so your ram will be running at 266 anyway

also 8mb cache might be nice idea - depends on how you use your machine as you will have plenty of ram for most things

graphics card depends on what games you will be playing (if any)

oh and dont forget stuff like thermal grease and cables (if they're not included). I forgot grease and cd-audio cable first time arctic silver is nice though it may still void your warenty. round ata and floppy cables are always nice too

Wow, thanks for all your help guys, the price is drastically going down.

Thanks cbuddha, I will be playing a lot of games especially games that run the Q3A engine. And I will need that 8MB cache. I'll see if I can find some good RAM right now...

Thanks again guys!
Keep hittin' me with your comments!

BTW, I don't really want to get a new PSU since my case came with one. Do I really need it??
