Wierd Monitor

I bought a monitor the other day,and hooked it up to my 233,works great.Used it on there for about a week.So I decide it's a nicer one than I have on the main rig,so I switched them.It looked like the resolution was too much for hte monitor.Just a bunch of lines in the middle one third of the screen.
So I hooked it back to the 233 works like a dream. What's up with the thing?
Both machines have 98se,and are set to 800x600 16bit.Could it just not work with this video card.I have never heard of that happening, but anything is possible I guess.
I didn't load any drivers on the other computer either so that's not it.

Any ideas what's going on here?

TIA

Is there a specific driver that is loaded for the existing monitor on your "main rig". Some monitors can use specific drivers (like if you have a viewsonic monitor). You may need to switch to standard vga driver before you connect the new monitor. You could also try booting the "main rig" into safe mode. Connect the new monitor first then boot into safe mode. Safe mode loads the basic vga drivers. If it doesn't work in safe mode then some weird is going on there.
