Tuned up for Siluro MX440 SE

Just got a Siluro MX440 SE 64 SDRAM to replace my burned ELSA GeForce 2, but i notice my card is relatively slower compare to my old card.

I had it overclocked at

core clock freq :287 Mhz
mem clock freq : 366 Mhz

resolution 1024 x 768 24bits color

I try it on my favourite MechCommander 2, the opening interface is choppy and slow respond to the mouse cursor.

It's there any solution to tune up my card to have smoother game play. Tq

what kind of geforce 2 was it, was a mx or a gts or a pro, how much mem did it have, also the actual mem speed is prob around 180 since the mem speeds sometimes get shown double on mx cards with sdram

GF4 MX's were indeed noted to be quite slow...although not positive about THAT slow.
You can pick up a GF4 Ti4200 for like 95 bucks, and possibly return the MX?

Here's a link to look at where the cards fair against each other.

Um, a Geforce2 GTS or Ultra would smoke a MX440. No question. The Geforce4 MXes are barely any better than a GF2 MX200.

Greetings,
The standard gf4mx440 is an excellent, budget card and is quicker than any of the gf2 cards in dx8. In dx7 it is approximately equivalent to them. It is much better than any of the gf2mxs. I upgraded from a gf2 gts to a standard gf4mx440 (for the extra ram mostly) and it was certainly better or as good for everything I did.
The fact that you have the gf4mx440 SE with SDRAM is a problem (but not THE problem). I know that the spec's of the SE version set it back about 10% and at a guess I would say that the SDRAM would set it back a further 20%. For DX8 stuff this would probably put it on par with you're old card, presuming it was not a gf2mx, but in dx7 stuff it will probably be slower than your old card.
So you should mostly get similar performance with modern games.
Therefore, I think your choppiness may be a driver issue (you may need to get rid of old driver files/fragments) or it may be that it is sharing an IRQ with your soundcard. It should not be running noticably worse than your old card.
Regards,
Elad.

Your MC2 problem is related to the game not the card. Go into the MC2 directory and delete (or at least move) badcard.vdx and oldcard.vdx (the .vdx part may be wrong, but they are the only badcard and oldcard files). Doing so for some reason makes the game MUCH faster, especially for Win98 machines.
