I'm trying to install Linux Mandrake 9.1 on my P4 3.06 HT with a MSI AGP 4X ti4600 and a GigaByte GA-8IK1100 Intel 875P chipset and 1 gig. of ram.
The thing is that i'm unable to do a GUI install @ startup. The CD lauches and when i hit enter.... BLANK SCREEN......
I tried the F1 option and did a TEXT install....works fine but when I come @ screen detection and gfx card i always get an error....like no screen available.... DUH ???????.....weirdest is that when i select my gfx card and select a generic monitor, i get a display but after i get a error. if i finish the install....Linux boot's a prompt and when i lauch X i get display errors....
What's the catch......My Monitor is a 19 inch Samsung SyncMaster 957MB there is no driver for that monitor in Mandrake 9.1 but my GeFroce 4 is listed in the Nvidia part......
It doesnt make a lot of sense that the GUI install would not work, it should be able to load just a generic module and work fine. See if there are any parameters you can pass the install tailor it for your system, or see if you can specify to use generic video.
Actually it might be a ram issue..... try pulling some ram out so you have LESS than 1 gig. Install is weird with over 1 gig of ram, or ,when you get to the installer splash screen hit F1 and type linux vga=0
