WinXP won't install service pack 1!!

I reinstalled WinXP due to some slowness and what not... Now that I have done a complete format and reinstall, I can't install Service Pack1. It downloads the file, tries to run it then gives me some BS error. I've reinstalled 3 times now and it happens every time. Seriously what is wrong?

The error is the standard big red X and it says "Service Pack 1 Setup cancelled".

If you have one of the many pirated and blocked corporate serial numbers, XP will not let you update to SP1.

I paid for my copy, I'll even take a picture of the CD if you don't believe me.

I was downloading it through the Windows Update site. I have already described the error.

either version will give him the same error. looks like he got taken on his "purchased" version. only two product keys are blocked, so its likely a pirated copy.

Actually from what I have read, there are more than 2 banned serials. I remembered it looking like about 15 or so.

But even if I had mentioned it earlier, but he denied it, so I have to believe him, maybe there is another problem.

BTW Shawn, the error you got, did the error message have "Your registration code is invalid, yada yada yada" ? (its something like that) Because your scenario from what you have described is exactly what happens when you use a banned serial. (Personal experience)

I googled and googled for "BS Error XP SP1" and could find no mention of it. Perhaps the exact error you are getting would be more helpful. If it is actually a "BS Error" you should log a call with Microsoft.
