radeon 9700pro and nforce MB

Hi ,

I just bought an ATI 9700pro, but I heard that Nforce MB doesn't work well. What is a good Motherboard for 9700pro ?
Right now I have a ASUS A7V333 and thinking in upgrade.

Thanks,
Ulisses

Go to your mobo website and look up to see if there are any issues.

I just got a Albatron KX400-8XV-pro to run my Tyan 9700pro. Got it from Newegg $70 shipped new. Even though it's a budget board, it is getting very good reviews. I wanted a basic board with the bare minimums that still performed well. And the best part... I have emailed Albatron tech support twice, and believe it or not, they replied within 30 minutes both times. I didn't have to wait for 2 or 3 days or go searching on the net for an answer.

Yes

MSI K7N2 Delta Series (nForce2)
very similar to the Asus A7N8X Deluxe
But have to disable 8X AGP Support.

What's wrong with the 8x AGP support on that board?

Im using the now infamous Epox 8rda+ board with the 9700. For me, it works flawlessly.

Radeon vid cards will run fine on nforce boards. Get one, they are the best on the market right now.

I've run my first (and current) 9700 Pro on two Asus A7N8X's, two Epox 8RDA's, and one Soltek SL-75FRN-L. In each case, it has worked flawlessly at 8x AGP.

I don't know, but the symptoms I had with 8X AGP were:
1. 3D Games Freezing
2. Freezing when loading games
3. Freezing when running 3D Benchmarks
This was with a FX5800 Ultra 128mb and a FX5900 Ultra 256mb

Solution:

Diasbale 8X AGP Support or Force 4X AGP within the Bios

As far as this having an impact on performance, the result is Zero, Nothing, NO decrease in performance.

WHY?
The reason is that AGP transfers only ever happen when the card is running low on its own local memory - it then starts borrowing system memory.
Now since system memory is by a huge amount slower than graphics card memory, performance IS going to stink anyhow, no matter what AGP mode is being used - and on the other hand, as long as the card has plenty of RAM, AGP transfers aren't going to happen at all.

Thanks guys for the experiences, probably I'll buy the MSI K7N2 Delta. I hope to not get problems

I saw many posts about Nforce problems with ATI, but maybe it is a driver thing.
