Painting a Monitor

Is it at all possible, or even a good idea, to take the casing off a monitor to paint it? I'd really like to get it to match my case nicely, but am a little shaky about taking it apart to paint the housing. Any suggestions, links, or references on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had no option but to double post, sorry. The forum "edit" option would not let me delete my other post after I noticed there was a MOD specific section. It kept giving me this error page:

Thanks for painting info though.

Yeah, you cant delete your posts over here. BTW, are you wanting to paint the whole monitor, or just the front of it?

Well it would be nice to paint the entire thing, however there is a very large grill on the top, and some holes on the sides, which would require a lot of intricate taping and paintbrushing afterwards. I'd have too see just how difficult it would be. Actually I might be able to cut some small wooden strips to fit in the grill slots, that would speed up the process. So I could spray the whole thing down and then only need to touch up the surrounding area.

Yeah, one of these day I'm gonna paint mine. What I was thinking, just do the front(around the screen). And the sides up the crack. Ya know, where the front plastic piece and back piece meet. Just do the entire front section. Only touch up would be around the buttons.

Painted a monitor actually. Wasn't all that hard.

Get yourself some 3M blue masking tape, and tape off the monitor screen, then remove the screws that hold the housing off the back, and use tape and newspaper to protect the now unprotected components. Find an area to paint and go to town.

Don't worry about the buttons on the monitor, as long as you don't go hog wild on the paint thickness, they'll work and won't stick. Same with any lights you may have. The light will shine through the paint, and if you really want to protect the plastic bezel, rub a sharpened crayon on the part you don't want painted, and then just wipe off that area when you are done ( paint wont stick to Wax )
