9100 or 440 SE?
Hey guys, im new to this forum.
I bought a MX 440 SE 64mb the other day and realized that a Radeon 9100 would of been a better choice.
I live in NZ so graphics prices arent 2 cheap. OK...
I bought the 440 for about $50 US and I can get a Radeon 9100 64mb for about $80 US, shod I sell my geforce for about $45 and get a radeon? Is it worth it?
Is the 9100 a good choice, would a 9000 be alrite since thats cheaper.
Yeah, I'd apreciate any feedback

i don't think you are really anybetter off with the 9100 or the 9000 . i don't think you will see any preformance difference other than the way your wallet will preform when it is lighter ...

Greetings - Welcome to the board,
The 9100 is a much better card than the 440se. The GF4 MX440se is based on the Gforce 2/directx7 and is an ok budget card - the Radeon 9100 is based on the Radeon 8500 (Almost Identical in most cases), is a Directx 8.1 based card and quite a bit quicker than the 440se.
I would chooose the 9100 over the 9000 personally - although the 9100 is clocked higher it has been trimmed somewhat with only half the texturing power (per cycle).
THG gives these numbers in 3Dmark2001 for those cards:
8500 - 9900 3dMarks;
9000 Pro - 8500 3dMarks;
9000 - 7250 3dMarks;
Mx440 - 6850 3dMarks.
The MX440 is about 10% faster than your current MX440se.
(nforce 2 board with an xp2700+ cpu)
Regards,
Elad.

the thing is he already has the mx 440 . so buying a 9100 or a 9000 isn't really a good option in my opinion . if you look at benchmarks you will see that the performance of the ati cards mentions are single digit % wise better . is they worth spending almost double the money for ? i don't think so .
also you qoute 3d mark scores . what good are they ? the scores have alot to do with alot of other things also , more than just the video card . the motherboard plays a part because of the different chipsets , ram , hd performance plays a role also . so quoting 3d mark score means nothing unles they are his exact setup .

I totally disagree with Omardeth. The mx440 doesnt have half the features you really need for good gaming. Sell it and get the 9100.

MX 440 SE - 2 pipelines, 2 TMU per pipeline, 270/183 Mhz, 2.9 GB/s Bandwidth, Bilinear, Trilinear, 2x Anisotropic filtering support, Hardware T&L, Accuview AA, No pixel shader or Vertex shader.
Radeon 9100 - 4 pipelines, 2 TMU per pipeline, 250/250 mhz, 8.0 GB/s bandwidth, Bilinear, Dual Bilinear, 16x Anisotropic filtering support, Hardware T&L, Pixel Shader version 1.4, Vertex Shader version 1.1.
I'd go with the 9100.
The MX 440se is DX7, The 9100 is DX8.

thanks for all the replys guys,
Even though the 9100 seems quite a bit better, i geuss for twice the price I might aswell just stick with the 440 for now, atleast until i got enough money to buy a WAAAAY better card.
