Outdoors linksys wired to linksys wireless

I just recently changed over from a linksys wired router to a befw11s4 wireless router w/4 ports in the back. I'm using a cable modem. When i was on the wired router, i was testing via the Macafee speedometer test at over 1 meg download and now with the wireless router that i am hard wired to is only running on the same test site at about 1/2 meg. Shouldn't there be no difference between the routers if i'm hard wired in???

I would repeat it at another time, several times actually. See if the issue could be on their end. On paper the wireless should be faster than your internet. Have you power cycled the modem.

numerous times and i have retried the test several times over the weekend. I keep getting the same results. I contacted linksys and they were of no help at all. There should be something in the router settings on this wireless that is different from my wired one that i had.

I assume you only have one PC so you cant test between them and see if it is the wireless or the router portion.

What does it indicate your signal strength is? I can get full speed internet up to the point where I lose connection all together.

Also, at least with mine, my cordless phone kills my wireless. I suspect one of my neighbors also has a 2.4 gig phone as the same thing happens from time to time when I am not using the phone.

No i have 2 pc but both are hard wired into the wireless. Maybe i'm wrong but if you are hardwired into the back of the wireless router then you arn't using the wireless feature. It should be running as if i was using the wired one i had before and not be affected by the 2.4 phone. It's just frustrating to contact linksys and get no help and the tech guy actually had me setting the MTU properties on the router which i was informed by adelphia that MTU has to do with email and not the download speed.

Ohhhhh, I gotcha. So the router has wireless, but you arent using it for this test.

MTU is an ethernet property Maximum Transmission Unit, but other than e-mail uses the network it has exactly 0 to do with e-mail.

My knee jerk at this point is to RMA the router. There is something wrong and you shouldnt have to tweak this much to get over 1/2 meg.

Well I worked on it all night and found that my other pc is acutally running the speed test at 1.5 megs still so i narrowed it down to the network cards but have hit another road block. I switched cards but my main pc has the same problem! both cards are linksys as well. Seems to me the new router is having some type of problem with the drivers but i can't get any good updates from linksys. I gonna try switch brand names on the card and see what happens.
