Blank CDs work if dusty?

Hey all, have ya ever bought one of those spindle cd packs, and on some cds u find a small dust particle? Well i was wondering if i can still use it, or if the dust will keep the laser from burning on that sector, therefor the data being incomplete or corrupt.

Thx

Yea cleaning them is a good idea

But if the dust looks like its kinda like in the disk. I'v had something like that also on really cheap cdr's. The only way to know for sure is to just try it.

Its different for everyone but in the past Ive burnt several cds that had dust in them with no problem...seems to burn right through or is not enough to corrupt

I think there it can just mark it bad and move on with reduced capacity. Small defects are acceptable because of this.

well if i clean i of and tough it ill probly make a mark on it or a finger print, and then ts not gonna work good at all, i used to just throw them away if i find ne like that but i noticed i waste alot of cds like that.

So theoretically could the laser burn right through it if it gets to a dust particle? or does the cd spin fast enuff to just throwit of the disk, case i bet theres lots of dust inside of he drive, and it sill works.

I think it would take a fair bit of dust to make a CD un useable because of how big the laser is in CD's.

Other technoledgy like the new Blue Ray is supposed to be so sensitive that a single bit of dust can muck it up.

Look, with CD'rs, it's going to take A LOT of junk of it befre it can't re written to. As for touching the disk, finger prints won't do anything, too small. Dust won't do anything. Big chunks fly off, small particles are just too small to do anything. Before you put a disk in your drive. Put your finger through the middle hole and rub the Data side of the CD of your shirt. This will get rid of anything that could POSSIBLY affect the disk.

Of course, don't come to me and say, "A piece of gum was on there, I rubbed it on my shirt, and it won't burn." Obviously something HUGE stuck to the disk will present problems.
