Finance HP 6745c POST beeps??? Need Help!

I have an HP 6745c. I installed more RAM and it wont boot. It make 2 sets of 3 beeps and then 1 set of 2 beeps. Where can I find out what the beeps mean? I know that the RAM should be compatible.

I also dont know how to get into the BIOS and would like to know how.

Thanks for the help!

When you remove the RAM you installed and re-install the original memory, will it boot? If so, I think it's pretty safe to assume it's some sort of RAM problem. A few things could be affecting this. The chipset of your board is listed at HP's site as being an Intel 810, which supports a maximum 512 MB of un-buffered PC100 SDRAM. As for accessing BIOS, according to the info at HP, you need to hit F1 at the blue logo HP screen that comes up at boot.

There is also a list of beep codes for pavillions here:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...cName=bph07107

I can't find the particular beep code you listed, but you may have better luck.

Another thing you can try, is installing the RAM in another PC that accepts PC100 SDRAM and see if it works. If so, then perhaps the RAM is not compatible with your particular chipset, maybe perhaps of the density of the memory. If it doesn't work in another system, then the RAM may be bad.

Can you give us a little more info on the RAM you are trying to install, and whether you added to the original memory, or if you removed the original memory entirely?

Probably your RAM brand is incompatible with your new. Or your new is defective. I agree with the previous poster,beppodmime.
Switch the sticks around and try each one individually.

Hey DestructoBro;

If you get a total of 8 beeps it could mean your Video card is giving the problem. Now if you are hearing the beeps but not see a POST screen then check your video card, make sure its plug in correctly and still work. As far as HP's beep patterns I’m not too sure, updating your BIOS may help it to recognize the new RAM upgrade. I can tell you this; if the new RAM upgrade didn't come from HP them self well it's a 70% chance its incompatible. Check the web for the maximum speed, and capacity the RAM on that board can carry.
Good Luck;
