Multiple Public Ip Setup
Well, I am new to TechIMO and here is my first post. My background is mainly in DVD and CD burning and ripping but I also run a small web hosting service. Having this web service for the last 10 years has helped me out alot in keeping my costs for new equipment down.
Recently, I picked up more clients and so I needed to build another server box (W2K). MY ISP assigned me 5 publice IP's many years ago but since I was only using one box to run my services, I didn't need to use the other 4. Now I have a need to use 1 for the new server box and another one for a VPN project I am working on. I assume I will need to upgrade my hardware router in order to accomplish this but I thought I would post here for any suggestions on how to set this up. Here is my current system:
Internet/DSL Box
|
UNIX firewall box
|
Wireless Linksys BEFW11S4 cable/dsl routerw/4 port switch
/ \/ \
W2K DC server | 2 wired / 2 wireless workstations
|
new W2K server
So, here is my question. How do I assign/use another of my static IPA's on the new server? Would I need to upgrade my router to one that would handle multiple public IP's? If so, then any recommendations on which brand to use? If I upgrade then I suppose the new router would have a feature whereby you could assign a public IP to a private IP (server) on a 1 to 1 relationship. The other option I tried and works is to make my new server a member server in active directory and my Linksys directs requests for these websites to the new server with no problem. However, this is still just using 1 IP. I would like to use another IP since my VPN project will probably need it to run correctly and I will be building a new VPN server box for that. I would just like to know how to set this up now when it is not that critical.
Thanks in advance for you help.
