Gaming Completely Weird - Access denied?

Okay, so the weirdest thing happened to me yesterday, and while the problem is highly superficial, I still find it increadibly bothersome. To begin with, I'm doing this all on WinXP. I'm not sure any of my hardware specs will make a difference - this is purely software related.

I was downloading a bunch of image files (Background images) from eMule that were all compressed into a .ACE file, and when I finally managed to download it, I had a bit of difficulty unarchiving it. Well, anyway, I _did_ manage to unarchive it - But then I realized I couldn't see any of the images. That's when I figured it was a pointless task, and just tried to delete the files all together.

I couldn't delete the files, though, because I got an access denied error! I was baffled, so I rebooted in case a program was using them or something, but that didn't help as I still had access denied to me when I rebooted. I've tried to uncheck the read only attribute, but I can't because (obviously) access is denied!

I do have admin access on this machine, and I've tried just about everything I can think of... I've booted into safemode and tried deleting the files, and that STILL gives me an access denied error. I've tried running attrib -r *.* from the command prompt, and I still get access denied and can't change the attributes. I've done a full chkdsk (twice) and that hasn't helped, either.

I suppose that technically, it doesn't much matter. It's just that now there's 25 megs of files on my machine that I can't move, delete, or even view! Any suggestions? Assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I'm fresh out of ideas! Thanks.

No, unless you mean deleting from the command prompt (I.E. run-> command) which I have tried. But I'll be damned if I know how to boot to DOS in WinXP. I tried making a boot disk the standard way, but when I boot from it, it tells me that C: is an invalid drive. I'm guessing that's because the bootdisk is FAT32, and I'm formatted NTFS on the hard drive.... Is there a way to boot right into DOS on WinXP? Sorry, I'm kinda an idiot about some of this stuff.

What are the permissions on the files? You may need to change the permissions before you can delete them.

How can I view the permissions on the files? (Sorry - once again, I'm something of an idiot about some of this stuff). I know the files are all read only files, but I don't particularly know how to view or change the permissions....

Ah, well, thanks, but as I've said in my previous posts above, I've already tried that. Even the command prompt tells me that access is denied.

Yes, I've tried that too. Even in safe mode, I'm told that access is denied when I try to delete the files. Even if I'm logged in as the administrator! It's honestly the weirdest thing I've ever seen on this computer.
