I think that's just a generic message for when SDL has a problem.
Apparently,there's a Linux NWN forum
In this discussion one says to try running it as root, then if it works, find out what NWN needs permissions for.
Not a gamer but I can Google

Right, the hardware acceleration hasn't been set up. Go to ati.com and get and install the Linux drivers for that card.
When you installed Mandrake, you clicked the option to install the GLX Acellerated X server didn't you? If you didn't then you will have to reinstall (there are other ways to make the switch, but if you're a new user then it really isn't worth the hassle.)
What version of X is installed? 4.3?
ATI only built drivers for 4.2.1, so I'm not sure how far you'll get.
