Gaming HD Problems!

i have a nearly one year old Wester Digital 40 GB HD and i found out it's so damn slow, i installed a game with 480 MB and it needed more than 3 minutes!! what's wrong?

there are three partition on it C: with 9 GB E: with 27 GB and the rest are linux partitions

C: has got the system and some stored files, E: is the data partition full of games and other things (Free Space 4 GB)

so how can i find out what's wrong with my HD, and how can i fix this??

Creatures

i tested the HD with a benchmark program and it looked like a Extern USB HD not like a western digital!

Have you defragmented all the partitions?

Well, just like Telexen said, defrag it.
Also, use UDMA cables if you have them.

ok so i have the same exact hard drive...two of them actually...and i have no probs with speed from either...although neither of mine have multiple partitions...why would you want multiple partitions with a drive that small?

It may just need to be formatted.

Are these logical/extended partitions or all primary partitions?

Does it give out smoke while spinning? Or a smoky smell?

Or burning rubber?

Seriously, though, has it always been fast and now slowed? Or you never noticed before?

Check to see you have DMA enabled, you have an 80 connector cable.

I fall this checks out post here and we'll see.

What Motherboard are you using? My MSI acts like that on occasion and I have to reinstall 4in1 drivers again, or update them and it runs like a dream again. Don't know why.
