a few questions about coding

I know this should go in the coding section of the forum but this part gets more users.

I want to learn C++. I am wondering which verion (assuming there are different verions) should I buy?

Am I mistaken or can you write C++ and VB just using note pad. all you need is the compiler too execute the code right?

What is java? It is a type of internet coding like html or something else. How do I go about getting it. Is i a software like C++ or VB or can I just write it and then upload it into a browser?

I'm not sure you can do that with VB...but yes you can code C++ (command line) in just notepad, then save it to a file and run it through a compiler.

Java is slightly based on C++, written by Sun and is probably most heavily used for websites, but it has many other uses (especially to corporations who write programs to automate workloads)...though it's not the fastest language in the world.

true that. i myself have MS Visual C++ 6.0 and it is great for all of its uses. Learning C++ can be pain, but rewarding, of course. As for Java, i'd recommend C or C++ first, then once you have a basic knowledge of either you can jump into Java. Java is, as stated above, a C++ enhanced language, for almost anything the IE lets you see. HTML is a great way to start too. I know one guy at work, who started learning HTML and now he codes in Java for his work...pretty happy for what he did. I hope this solves you wonders. Good Luck.
