Kids Slow printing with samba (linux)

I finally managed to switch the printer over to my linux server (Just upgraded to RH 9). I also managed to get samba to share the printer and to get my windows XP boxes to use said printer.

The only problem is that is takes anywhere from 30-60 seconds to spool a simple print job (such as the 'Test Page') when printing from a windows box. The linux box has no such delay when printing locally.

Any ideas for tuning this?

My relevent smb.conf entries:

Code:
# Global parameters
[global]
        workgroup = HOME
        server string = Samba Server
        encrypt passwords = Yes
        obey pam restrictions = Yes
        pam password change = Yes
        passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
        passwd chat = *New*password* %n\n *Retype*new*password* %n\n *passwd:*a$
        username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
        unix password sync = Yes
        log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
        max log size = 50
        socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
        dns proxy = No
        hosts allow = 192.168.0. 127.
        printing = cups

[printers]
        comment = All Printers
        path = /var/spool/samba
        printable = Yes
        browseable = No

        comment = EsponC80
        path = /var/spool/samba
        read only = No
        printable = Yes

        use client driver = Yes

hello,
i don't think this is samba specific - because both our computers use cups and the remote takes about 20 seconds to print.

i know that does not help solve the probelm..

Interesting.
Do you have the same problem when connecting to Samba file shares?
What happens when you try to print locally through samba?
Do you have other Linux boxes on the network?
What happens when you run ipclient -L <linux server>? From the server and from other Linux boxes?

The fileshares are all fine. Nice and speedy.

When i originally setup the printer through gnome's printer setup utility, the test page from there printed right off.

This is the only linux box on the network... it's our web, mail server, filesharing/mp3, ssh, and now print sharing machine. We have 3 PC's (2 XP, 1 W2K) and a few networked 'appliances' (ReplayTV, Audiotron, Gamecube... but those don't print. )

ipclient doesn't look to be installed or in the known paths.

I'm kinda new to this printing-on-linux thing
