Internet access

Hi
I have a crazy occurence that happens occasionally. I cannot get internet access on one of my computers but when I switch to the other one it is available. Thats not a problem but I cannot install a printer on one of my computers. I know this is two problems but they intertwine with each other. On the printing problem I have uninstalled and reinstalled with disc but it does not work and tells me to contact HP support. They tell me they will let me talk to a technician for twenty five dollars with no guarantee that they will fix the problem. Hope someone can help

Also, a few details about your internet access. I'd tell you what it is but my crystal ball is broken.

Ok, how are your computers networked? What can you access from each computer? For example, does the XP machine see the 98 machine and vice versa. Can you access the router from the XP machine (if you have one)?

And, of course the obvious troubleshooting question, was it working before and have you done anything?

I am networked via LinskyRouter 4 port and I have just moved one of the connections to a different port. It's so crazy because after about an hour or two everything works fine. As to the printer I could never install it on the 98. I don't know how to update the firmware. Thanks a lot guys keep giving me ideas and maybe you can solve it for me.

This is just a shot in the dark on the printer, but I've read somewhere on this board recently that sometimes for hp printers you have to install the printer drivers on the pc before you ever connect it. So you might try to uninstall the drivers on the pc and unhook the parallel cable then install the drivers before hooking the cable back up....
It's worth a try!
