Will you be sharing the internet over them, or anything else (such as printers)?

There are many ways to Network 2 machines. The simplest and least expensive would be to directly connect them with a crossover cable VIA the NIC's.

There are also wired and wireless hubs and routers, phoneline, power line, etc..........

Did you decide to do it without a hub/switch then? are you sure it's a crossover cable, not just a straight through cable you had?

Send a message via AIM to Kc2iLq
You need a crossover cable if you're not using a hub/switch.

You can cut your cable & splice it to be a crossover cable.
Just cross orange with green & orange/white with green/white.

See Networx911
