WindowsXP minimums?

What would you say is the minimum CPU speed one should have to run WindowsXP efficiently?

I say 500MHz, provided you have 256+ MB RAM.

You might get not too bad performance with 400MHz CPU and 512+ MB RAM, though. Never tried that.

It sorta depends what ya wanna do. If winXP is only to used for email, web surfing and a bit of office software, then 500MHz with enough RAM should be fine. But if ya wanna burn CD's and multi-task, or do any graphics work, then you'll need a faster CPU - say 1GHz minumum.

This is all offa the top of my head from experience, though. Not really reliable.

I would say 300+ PII or celeron .. of course PIII and Athlon would run XP like a dream ..

The main consideration is memory! you should have 256MB+ RAM if you want to enjoy the system ...

My cousin has a PII at I think 250 to 300 mhz and 288 ram. It runs a little slow but I seems to work without any problems

I've run XP on a PII 233mhz with 128mb of RAM...it's not pretty...but it works - if you have patience.

Think we are getting a bit OT, IMO.

So, efficiently seems to be the key. IMO, a 233-300MHz CPU ain't ever gonna run winXP efficiently!

Anyone disagree??
