ASUS A7N8X BIOS Settings
OK, My Optical mouse blew up a USB fuse on my Modo (A whole nother story) so I got the great ASUS A7N8X DELUXE. Loaded with crap I may never use like Dual Lan... OK well may be when I wanna play the big green X-Box while I surf the net, not possible to do the two at the same time, I know but thats my point.
Anyhow, this top notch modo set me back $180 plus that darn NY sale tax. Ok, here is my point; I got a rig thats runnig the AMD XP 1800+, I know this is a over clocking board, but I cant even get it to run the full 1.5 something GHZ. It's running an Embarrassing 1.14 ghz, I cant get it to run it's own clock speed without shutting down. Even at 1.14 ghz I can't bench mark without a shut down. I know a 1800 should run at a 133 ex clock but all I can get is 100 without shutdown.
It's not cooling. I got a case as big as an house, with fans in low front, and high in back with the RPM's of a jet plane, but I still didn't trust them so I now have my rig open next to my AC, hows that for kool.
Please anyone with a BIOS config that may work, or any ideas for a XP1800+ w/ 512 DDR RIG please help. If this is money well spent how the heck is over clocking possible.

You should have got the epox 8rda, it costs less than 100. Anyways, what is your hsf(heatsink, fan)? You can have all the fans in the world runnin in your case, wont do a bit of good if you dont have a good hsf. What type of memory are you using? Cheap memory will cause lousy OC's. Is your xp1800 a tbred B? If not, that could explain some of the OC trouble.

Tony_J15, he's asking for help, not smartA$$ comments. If you can't help keep your yap shut!
Ok DevilsFury, look at your mobo, if look near the heatsink mounted on the chip by the cpu socket you will see a jumper labeled CPU_FSB. This should be set to pins 1-2, to enable 266/333 Mhz FSB. If its on pins 2-3 you are set for 200 Mhz FSB.
According to what you have posted, this is what the problem most likely is.

Hey Tony thanks a lot for your reply.
However, I did went over all my onboard jumper settings and that was one of the first thing I thought of. Needless to say it didn't work. What I am really having problem with is the BIOS settings, I think I am doing something wrong in my BIOS.
I cant seem to clock my CPU at its correct speed without a shut down. I think I might be over clocking, without knowing it, every thing is now on optimal, with a 100 mhz ex clock. It runs fine but AMD 1800+ shouldn't be running at 1.14 ghz.
Any ideas about bios settings are helpful.

If you really think its a BIOS setting problem, your multiplier should default to 11.5 and the FSB should be 133Mhz or 1.5295(1.53Ghz)
If your FSB is 100 then 100 X 11.5 = 1.15Ghz or the reading your getting of 1.14Ghz.
MAYBE there is a misprint in the manual and the CPU_FSB jumper should be 2-3 instead of 1-2.
Goto page 55 of your manual. Scroll onto an option and change it.

Hate to tell you, but you got ripped off!! I bought the same motherboard for $145 1/2 a year ago. newegg.com which is one of the best online dealers sells it for $130 with free shipping.
BTW, I'm not trying to bash you, I'm just trying to make you aware of newegg for future reference =)

Hey MAX;
Your suggestions were very helpful thanks a lot, I haven’t tried it as yet, but it seems to make a whole lot of sense. I’ll let you know how it turns out..
Thanks again.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. I have the same board(revision 2) sitting here waiting to be installed. I was going to do it today but I got lucky(dripping sarcasm) and found two virii(viruses) on my PC and spent the day removing those pesky buggers. Now I have to finish checking the rest of my machines.
I hope to get to installing it tommorow. If I have any similar diffilculties I'll post them here in your thread. Goodluck, Max_C

You didn't mention what kind of memory you are running... What brand and speed is it? That could be the cause, but it could be something else also. If you only have PC1600/PC2100 DDR then it would only run at 100FSB and would have problems running 133 for very long.
Also, how many sticks of memory do you have? And what slots are your sticks in? If you only have one, it should be in Slot 1, if you have two, put them in the two blue DDR slots.
Also, what power supply do you have? Is this the same power supply and RAM from your previous build that blew a fuse? That may be your problem... You can check your memory by going to http://www.memtest86.com/ and downloading the software to check your memory to make sure it's good. I would also try a different power supply in this computer, and if possible try a different stick of RAM in this new mobo. The main thing is test known good parts with this mobo, and if everything works then it's the parts you're using now(i.e. power supply, RAM, etc.).
I'll give some more things to do later...
Just try those first...
Hope this helps!
David
EDIT: Hey, just thought of something... Have you tried clearing your CMOS and then making the changes on a clean slate to your BIOS? That may do the trick...
