New LCD too bright! (?)

So I finally broke down a day before the sale ends, and picked up a black 15" Samung SyncMaster 151V LCD from CompUSA. I upgraded from a Viewsonic VG150 to match my black tower, so of course I had to get some black speakers. My whole setup looks sweeeeet now, it even matches my Viewsonic Ultimate Desktop Wireless Keyboard & Mouse perfectly.

Here's the thing- With a black casing, every website is bright as @%#$! I adjusted the contrast and brightness, but then when I look at pictures with people, their flesh looks like something off the X Files.

I'm starting to get jealous, because I just set up a silver Samsung LCD for a friend of mine. I went with the black because it's about $50 cheaper, and I just wanted a black LCD... but the silver casing is sooooo much easier on the eyes. Does anyone here have a Samsung, DELL, or any brand of an LCD in black? Please tell me how you fixed this.. if you get used to it, or what. I don't want to lose a 15% restocking fee to CompUSA because of this!

I've got a black Dell 1800 ultrasharp. Now that you mention it, I remember it being a nuisance at first, but then I got used to it, just give it some time and see what happens

Maybe you're looking at it at a bad angle?

It's not the angle, I had a 15" LCD before this one. It's just waaaaay too contrasting with the screen jumping out from the depths of blackness. When I look away at my living room, even my TV, it's like my eyes just got a full retina massage.

jmebonner- How long did it take you to get used to it? I like the difference in quality from the Viewsonic, but I'm starting to think it might be worth it to swap it for the silver.. except the silver doesn't have $80 in rebates. And on top of that it's a $46.50 restocking fee, which I was not aware of until I got home and flipped the receipt over.. I don't like that.

It only took a couple of days, in fact, I had forgotten all about it. I remember squinting the first few times I used it and then I just got used to it, I suppose. I DO notice a difference when I have to use a CRT now, though, it seems dingy almost. If you can hold off taking it back for a couple of days w/out losing out on the bargain, I would.
