buying ram. Need advice.

I already have 128 will adding 256 be good or should I go for 512. I am not into any heavy duty games. all I ever play is StarCraft. And I am not sure about brand names. Should I buy good brand names. My friend says its all the same anyway.

What are your thoughts?

thanks

I always say the more the better. The second best performance thing you can do to your computer is add RAM. No, not all RAM is the same. Stay with name brand. Generic RAM most of the time offers bad performance.

Agreed, stick with well-knowns like crucial samsung, kingston, corsair, etc...

I would go for 512, but thats just me.. even if your not into big gaming, it will boost speed.

you said ram is the second most important thing. (Is processor speed first?) I'm guessing yes

Yes, along with its front side bus. Probably third most important in terms of speed is the HDD, a 7200 rpm is a must, one with 8mb cache helps a lot too. (Most come w/ only 2mb cache) If you're gaming, the next on the list of priorities is the video card...
