How do I start going about making a website?

I really don't know anything about it.

I have heard that you can make websites with tripod, but I don't know how.

You can use WYSIWYG programs such as MS Frontpage, Adobe GoLive, Macromedia Dreamweaver, etc. Or you can learn HTML and use a text editor such as Notepad...

websites are made with HTML a scripting language. You can make an html file in just about anything, including notepad, word, or programs designed to make html like frontpage.
Then you would register at tripod and upload your file you created to their servers.
There are tons and tons of sites on how to do html, do a google or techimo search and you'll find plenty.

try to stay away from MS frontpage if u can.. it makes garbage code. go for dreamweaver. easy to use and produces correct html.

You are going to need a domain name and a web site server.

I would recommend www.enom.com.

They will register your domain name, host the site and even provide a quick, simple web page maker. You can it change when you want and can get very sophisticated as you learn.
