I have a Panasonic SA-100K Home Theater receiver and I just got a Yamaha YST-SW105 powered subwoofer ( I have a small Apt. so I don't need a big one).
I want to hook up the power from the subwoofer and switch it on/off along with the receiver, which works OK until I try to listen to an AM station... then I get lots of static and interference.
If I use a different power source I don't have the problem.... is there any type of AC power filter I can use to plug into the receiver so that I can hook up to the receiver as a power source and get rid of the interference?

I heard back from Yamaha tech support and they advised against using the switched power output from the receiver since their subwoofer can have a large current load at times and could damage the receiver.
I got an answer back in only 2 hours from Yamaha...pretty good response time for a large company.

The Yamaha powered subwoofer I got does have a volume control, but I couldn't tell by looking at the picture of the Panasonic auto on/off subwoofer on tne Panasonic site, whether it had any external controls at all, I guess it would probably entirely depend on the manufacturer's design.

Lots of subs have an auto on/off feature. They just use signal intensity to do it, when a signal goes to it, it powers up, and after about 10 minutes of no use, it just turns itself off. My Velodyne has it, good thing because always having to turn it on and off would annoy me
