Modding a mobo

How do I do this? lol

"Remove the Northbridge heatsink and replace it with a vantec iceburg chipset cooler. Cut the old Northbridge heatsink in half, and use one half to cool down your southbridge chipset. Also the Vantec comes with little heatsinks and tape. Use the Other half and stick it to your mofset next to the power plug. They get warm too and help control voltage. "

Where the heck is the Mofset? Never even heard of these things?

1)How do I remove the old heatsink
2)how inthe world do you "cut" one of these aluminum heatsinks?
3)How do attach it to my southbridge?
4)How do I attach it to the "mofset"

Thanks

Depends on the mobo. Some have the northbridge heatsinks glued down, dont even think about taking it off. If it has 2 or 3 little screws then it will probably come off. I wouldnt even bother removing the heatsink. Not worth it. Just buy another northbridge hs and mont it on the southbridge(which really doesnt need it).

Most of the boards i've seen actually have 2 pins across from each othere that hold the NB fan in place. I 've removed a couple just for the fact that the manufacture had "gooped" the thermal compound on so heavly that it could be seen oozing out.
As far as cutting the ols sink, never tried that although as a contractor I have at least a half dozen tools that would do the job. Since there aluminum perhaps a band saw. Maybe a dremel with a cut-off wheel? I could always pull out one of my saw-zalls and cut it, though the finish would look a bit hacked.
As far as the Mofsets they are located next to your ATX power connector.
Here's a link that should be of help;

Thanks a lot. That was pretty much just the thing I need for finding out about the mofset.

I still don't know how to "stick" the heatsinks to the places I want. I notice the reviewer said

"I mixed the proper ratio of Arctic Alumina (which is 1:1 for those of you who can't read the label), spread it onto the heat sinks and then held them in place for them to firm up"

I have Artic Silver 3. What else do I need to "glue" them to the motherboard. This Alumina stuff?

Somethin like that. Artic silver is a great heat conductor, but its not good as a glue.

Arctic Silver makes a thermal adhesive.

Imo you don't want to be trying to cut h/s that sux I just had to do it for my chipset cooler. I ahd to get a small h/s fan to place on there and the one i got was the smallest i could find but it was just a lil bigger than the stock one so i need to shave off a lil...wow what a pain.

Best bet for what your trying is to go to a local electonics store or a surplus place and see if you can find something to fit that you don't need to cut. As for getting them off mine was just double taped on and all i did was wiggle it and twisted and it popped right off.

and for those who don't know he's asking in relation to this thread and an atricle that is posted there http://www.techimo.com/forum/t69100.html
