RAID 0: Striping. Fast, no redundancy. (Loose one disk, loose all data)
RAID 1: Mirror. Loose one disk, rebuild or replace and rebuild mirror...
RAID 5: Striping with parity. requires 3 or more drives of the same capacity (or more). Uses the total of one full drive for the parity strip that is triped across all drives. Loose any one drive, rebuild or replace and rebuild.
These are the simple RAID types.
