New 64 bit machines from apple
Someone at apple leaked specs showing that they will be releasing 64 bit machines on monday. The processors run at 1.6, 1.8, and dual 2.0 ghz with a whopping 1 ghz bus. It has PCI-X as well. These look like they will wipe out anything intel has to offer.

Apple has seemingly inadvertently posted specifications of upcoming Power Mac models on its online Apple Store. Under the Power Mac G4 section, a list of specifications describes "the world's fastest personal computer" as containing 1.6, 1.8, or 2.0GHz PowerPC G5 processors. Update: The Apple Store went offline at 12:05 a.m.; it is back online as of 12:25 a.m.; the image in question has been removed, but can be found here: Power Mac G5 specs (our screenshot). [published 6/19]
The specifications read:
- 1.6GHz, 1.8GHz, or Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 processors
- Up to 1GHz processor bus
- Up to 8GB of DDR SDRAM
- Fast Serial ATA hard drives
- AGP 8X Pro graphics options from NVIDIA or ATI
- Three PCI or PCI-X expansion slots
- Three USB 2.0 ports
- One FireWire 800, two FireWire 400 ports
- Bluetooth & AirPort Extreme ready
- Optical and analog audio in and out
Many Mac enthusiasts and industry analysts are expecting the company to debut new Power Mac computers at next week's World Wide Developers' Conference.

Wow, that's great news for Apple.... and a bit dissappointing. "1.6, 1.8, or 2.0GHz PowerPC G5 processors"???
We'd need to see benchmark numbers, but when Intel and AMD are past the 3GHz mark, that seems like it's still behind the times...

I'm not totally sure how this works, but we haven't had a major upgrade since 1.5GHz... 1.5GHz * 2 = 3.0GHz... If apple's at 2.0GHz and they're processors run quite a bit faster for the MHz (like athlons vs. intel) then they may be just as fast ------ and that's single processor, not the dual

omalleytrading, actually AMD hasn't reached the 3Ghz mark (well oc'ers have, but AMD itself hasn't). They do have CPU's that preform as well as Intels P4 3Ghz. That is why AMD adopted the PR raiting.
The G5 is like that, except from previous examples are better then AMDs or Intels chips. You must remember Mhz are not everything. Isn't the Opteron debuing at about 2Ghz? It can whup Intel chips at 3Ghz but its slower by 1Ghz!

You're right, that's why I said "We'd need to see benchmark numbers".
It just seems surprising that a new chip, released in 2003 would have a 1.6 GHz rating...

Well, AMD is going to have an Athlon64 at 1.6 as well. These mac procs are sounding a lot like the Athlon64, both run at the same speeds, but the mac has a much faster bus. I wonder if there is a connection?
