Hello

Im trying to network 2 PC's with that crossover cable
One pc is xp and the other is 98

But im having a few problems. I set the XP machine ip to
192.168.0.1 and
windows 98 IP to
192.168.0.2

I can get a reply on the XP machine when i ping its ip and vise versa on the 98.. I just cant ping each other. What i want to do is allow the 98 one to use the broadband internet connection on my XP computer and maybe file sharing if its not too hard..

any suggestions?

Thanks

you don't need to set the IPs...set the one you want to have the internet to share it's connection, and set the other to use ICS..very simple

On XP...go to the properties of Network Connections ...right click on your connection and chose properties...Advanced tab...set it to Share the connection (you can also use XP's firewall...but I recommend you get a better Firewall)

Altenative on XP: Go to the Network properties and run the Network Setup Wizard.

On the Win98 machine, go to the properties of Internet Explorer (from the desktop)...choose the Connection tab...and run the wizard for ICS...forgive me as I can't remember the exact text of the button for Windows 98...it's been too long

Note: If this is Win98, NOT Win98SE, then you'll need to run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP machine and choose to make a disk so Win98 can share internet.
