AOL Question ... SERIOUSLY!

Fellow Members

I am working on a criminal case (in my capacity as a defense attorney) and I truly require the answer to an AOL related question.

Scenario:

John Defendant (JD) subscribes and pays for one AOL account. There are 5 members in JD's family, and each has a Username for Instant Messaging and/or chatting in the AOL program components.

Is it possible for one person (for example JD himself) sitting at one computer, with the one AOL account to simultaneously have 3 different Usernames generated or created from that computer appearing in the AOL chatrooms or Instant Messaging?

I do not use AOL and I do not want to clog up my registry by attempting such an experiment.

Thx.

Brangwen

Yes, if they use 3rd party tools like trillian to sign on instant messenger with multiple screen names.

I believe AOL also allows more than one name per account to be signed on at a time now.

The AOL buddy list and AOL Instant Messenger run on the same community...so he can have one running from AOL...then any number of other screennames from AIM, as it has the option to open "clones" of itself.

No aol does not allow more than one sn per account online at a time but yes you could use aim or another instant messaging program such as trillian to have more than one sn associated with that account online.

quick edit: as for being in chatrooms aim accounts/screen names users can not accsess all the same chatrooms as aol users can

Hmm ... interesting. The case is not terribly serious, but I am interested. Here are the actual facts in the proverbial nutshell: "Sweetchick" is claiming that while on line, "YDude" is on line also and threatens to harm her. Witnesses who hang in these chatrooms have said the instant "Sweetchick" goes offline, "YDude" goes offline. In other words, "Sweetchick" and "YDude" are only seen on line together.

The police are saying "Sweetchick" has created "YDude" ... At some point in real life "Sweetchick" is attacked. "YDude" claims responsibility. "Sweetchick" reports the attack to the local police, and after an investigation she is charged with "falsely reporting a crime."

Can one person do this (what "Sweetchick" is accused of doing) with one AOL account and one computer?

Thx.
