How's this card?
I'm thinking of getting this card. I'll be doing some gaming, light development, and would like to be able to go both ways with the video (VCR/TV/etc <-> PC). I've heard that the Ti4200 is a good chip, but haven't heard of the company at all. I also have just heard the term VIVO - how does this work compared to other cards? http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...82E16814150025
PS- If multiple copies of this message appear, I apologize. For some reason, the thread doesn't appear after I hit Submit.

VIVO= Video In Video Out. IOW, it has vid capture ability. XFX makes good cards, no worrys there. This one isnt DX9 compatible, but only worry about that if you want to play Doom3 and HL2 with all the effects turned on. The ti4200 is still an excellent card, it OC's well and for the price, go for it.

Thanks for the advice Tony. One question though. What does it mean when you say that this card isn't DX9 compatible? In my experience, all DirectX does is provide a set of APIs for games to call so that the game programmers don't have to do as much work. Is my thinking out-of-date? Are there games that run under DX9 that won't under DX8?

you are kinda right . and as long as you have dx9 drivers on your system when you run a program that needs them you will be ok . it is just that the card won't be able to preform the added features that dx9 is capable of doing over what dx8 does now . this is why they still make and sell tnt ultra chipset video cards . and they run fine with dx8 and they are of the dx3 era . i think people are making a bigger deal out of dx9 compatability than it really is . they all takle about when HL2 and doom 3 come out and all the eye candy , thats what dxX does makes the wall textures , it makes what you see smoother and defined i guess is a good word . but with FPS games like HL2 and doom 3 i think more people will be worried about not getting killed in the game than how cool the wall looks with the fine line cracks in it from gun shots and how cool the statue looks standing in the corner of the room .

XFX = Bad company
I purchased a PCI GeForce2 MX 400 from Newegg, and installed it thinking I would get the exact same performance my buddy's similarly equipped PC would get. Boy, was I wrong. The card I recieved was half-height, and I wasn't aware of it before purchase. So somewhere along the lines of screwing up the dimensions, they decided to slice quite a bit of performance off compared to what I would have gotten with a VisionTek card or similar. Buyer beware.

LOL CAUSE ITS PCI... PCI complients can run at a max mhz of like 32 i think... Thats slow
Most AGPS are up to like dual ramdacs of 350mhz...
PCI sucks for graphic cards

So why didn't you bring that up *before* I ordered this card last night AF?
The PCI bus is far slower than the AGP, especially when you start getting into 2x, 4x, and 8x AGP.
I'll post back on how it works. <crosses fingers>
