Everyone I know who is into graphic design, use Apple Mac as that is what the colleges over here use!
Personally I don't like Mac's, but then I could be described as Autistic not Artistic!

I believe that most Graphics peps use macs.. What does your school use to teach you
I really believe that you can get and learn on either one.. for once you understand and have the abilities to see what you want the graphic to do or look like the rest is just a program you have to learn.. I have know designers who have also used both...
not sure if this helps but I would get one that is compatable with your school and worry about the rest later...
gotta graduate first....

From my understanding, Macs are great with graphics. Most people "used" a Mac because a Windows PC could not perform as well. Today that does not seem to be the case. Not only does a Windows PC hold it's on, it is usually much cheaper and more software to work with.
I also think a Mac is like driving a BMW - it's more of a statement than anything. Personally, I would love to own a Mac, but find it hard to believe it would ever replace my Windows PC...

I agree with edwelly here. Mac has a "hip" status attached to it. As far as performance and/or product availability, however, it's fallen behind the PC.
Every major Application is now available on the PC as well as the Mac. PC laptops are more competative on price than the Mac's, and they're faster.
There are rumblings of a shake-up at Apple. New G5 chips to be released, and a possible move to 64 bit Intel chips. That could once again tip the hand back into Apple's favor, but if you need to make a decision now, Intel is probably the safer bet...
JMHO, of course...

t_a_o - I would hope that with a degree you would be able to find a job at a nice firm - with that in mind, they should supply you with a computer to use... However, there systems by be mac so having knowledge of how to use it could help out a lot...
