SATA drive in PATA system

This may be a lame question but i have to ask before i buy: a SATA HDD works in a PATA system?

I mean without a controller & SATA cable. I'm asking because i want to buy a 7200.7 SATA 8M (i can't find it with 8M but without SATA here) on 8RDA+ mobo.

I belive you are going to need to get an add-in SATA controller card to be able to use a SATA HDD in yout mobo.

The SATA power cable is essentially just a converter from the standard 4 pin power interface to the SATA, while the data cable is really its own entity, and is of course not backwards compatible with Parallel ATA.
