ACI Disruptor Notebook vs Sager NP8887 vs Dell

Hi am purchasing my first laptop and it is basically a replacment for my desktop. I am a programmer, designer, and electronic musician, so I am interested in resolution, HD speed (5400), RAM, more USB 2.0 ports, firewire and processor 2.6 GHZ.

Anyway, I am planning on using an external kepboard and mouse and dual monitors when at home, but want to be able to travel to gigs and practice with the laptop for my beats and such.

I am looking to spend under $1800 and have foudn some sweet generix systems (ie not Dell, HP, Compaq etc.)

I am looking at the ACI Disruptor Notebook from AmericanComputech and it seems pretty sweet. I haven't found a match at this price range. However, I am not sure about the company. I have seen this smae computer for the same price at other vendors, all seem a little shady, but wanted to know if anyone woudl recommend this computer.

http://www.americancomputech.com/smo....asp?iid=88322

Tweaked out it to: $1763.01
16" UXGA
2.66 GHz
1 Gig DDR333 (2x512Mb)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 M9, AGP 4X, external 64MB DDR
40 Gig HD @ 5400 RPM (would rather have 60 at 5400 $$)
DVD-RW (not necc, i could just go DVDR and CD-RW)
4 USB 2.0
(8.1 lbs)

PowerNotebooks.com has a Sager NP8887 SUPRA $1895.00
http://www.powernotebooks.com/config...1&model_id=234
16" UXGA
Builtin TV tuner
2.66 GHz
1 Gig DDR333 (2x512Mb)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 w/128MB DDR
40 Gig HD @ 5400 RPM (would rather have 60 at 5400 $$)
Combo 8X DVD/24x10x24 CD-RW w/Softwares
4 USB 2.0
HEAVY tho 12.1 lb

There is also the Dell Inspiron, but it is way more $$ and can't get as good components, slower HDD 4200RPM. However, it is Dell and their support Rocks!.

Any insight on this and these companies and computers would be great. I am apprehensive because these companies always seem sketch and the support is usually horrible. I have been searching hardcore for 3 weeks and these are the best bang for the buck I have found so far.

thanks in advanced

Sager is releasing an 8890 model that is basically the same as the 8887 except is uses the Springdale 800FSB with dual channel 400DDR RAM. Also, is will have on board hardware raid and will probably have the ATI 9600PRO. It's supposed to be out 1 - 1.5 months.

HERE's the link to more info on it and other Sager releases.

Alienware is working on a new release you may want to check out HERE

There's a lot of good things coming as there always seems to be with technology. One of the cool options Sager has worked for is the option to upgrade. They're palnning on offering upgrades to the current 8887 owners to the 8890. Where you can send your system in and get the motherboard and processor and video swapped. Some of the Dells have the nice option of the socket video where you can swap it yourself. Dell has on site support which you won't find with Sager. Also, Dell tends to get better battery life because they offer larger batteries than Sager.

I looked up americancomputech on here and they don't appear to have a very good rating, but they don't have many reviews so they may not refer people to give them reviews. Powernotebooks on the otherhand has a lot of good reviews as do many of the Sager resellers.

hmmm.... it is never a good time to buy, technology is always pushing the envelope. I just need to figure out when i should get one.

Do you think that the ugrades will actually happen, I am assuming that will be for an additional fee? Any idea how much the new 8890 is going to run when it comes out, I just have to be sure I can afford it.

thanks.

The upgrade from the 8880 (400FSB and ATI 7500) to the 8887 (533 FSB and ATI 9000) was offered for $500 if you bought within the last year and the turn around tune on average was around a week. I don't know what the pricing will be with the new upgrades until they're released, but I'm betting it will be reasonable like last time.

Sager notebooks are pretty reliable. We've got about 15 of them in office. I would recommend the Sager to you.

Kids ACI Disruptor

Hello,

I ordered the ACI Disruptor a week or so ago. I should have it within a couple of weeks. I'm a hardware guy from way back and I'll evaluate the notebook when I get it, including benchmarks.

Thanks for the great review page. Looks like the reviewer was suitably impressed with the Disruptor. I must say I have not seen a notebook with such power for such a good price.

i'll be interested in hearing your thoughts and your experience with the Disruptor. It really does seem slick and super powerful. I am still in between with this one and the Sager NP5670.
