In 95/95, winpopup came standard. However, inexplicably, it is missed out of win2000. I need a chat application, which will not show up within add/remove, and can be run discreetly - no popup if not wanted, and easy to use - any suggestions??

Cheers

I don't know what winpopup is, but it was a free chat application that came with the older win9x versions. It was left out of 2000, and all that is around that I know of is winchat, which to put mildly is pants!!
I need a chat application, that will not show up within software audits, but allows members of our company to talk to each other....
Could someone explain the whole netsend command?

cheers

winpopup was never in WinNT..and that's what 2000/XP were based on.

try going to run and typing "net send <ip or name of machine> <message>"

Do they need command prompt open if you do it from the CMD interface, or does it only work from start->run?

no they will not need the command prompt open

on this send the second picture is what the message box looks like that pops up

http://www.aspsimply.com/VB/netsend.aspx

(you might have seen this with spam for college degrees)

to send messages is what you will need to use command prompt. or on that site there is a program so you dont need to access the command prompt to type messages

You could just install any old chat program then use regcleaner to delete it from the add/remove list without uninstalling.
