Speaker question..

I am trying to figure out what to do with an old set of cambridge soundworks speakers I have. Does anybody know if using something like this to plug my 3 piece speakers into my DirecTV receiver's audio outputs is ok? I think it would be an ok setup for watching tv in my room

It should work pretty good with your directv, but not the best sound. I am sure that it would work out fine on it though.

If they are amplifed you should be ok, volume control may be an issue. Worth a try and little gizmos like that are really handy either way.

It should work fine as long as those audio outputs are analog and your speakers will accept that analog signal.

But I wouldn't pay 10 bucks plus tax/shipping. I'd go to Radio Shack and get the same gizmo for maybe $3.50 or so.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. I'm sure it won't sound that great, but it's just a 19" tv in my tiny bedroom. I think they could easily fill the room with sound. I found a description of them at newegg. Mine are the same but white. I'm going to stop at Radio Shack tomorrow and see if they have the adapter.

If anybody knows a reason why I shouldn't try it, lemme know

If the speakers do have a built in amp you should be OK.
You would actually be better off running those of the TV Output though. Most of the TV's built within the last 5 years or so usually allow you to turn off the TV speakers and use the remote to control the volume to the speakers you want to use. If you have those options on the TV they would be labeled either "fixed" or "Variable"

Thanks woodbutcher My TV doesn't have those options, but I should be able to turn the TV volume all the way down and use the in-line volume for the speakers. It won't be wireless, but it will be right next to my bed.
