I had that happen a few times, I just restarted the computer then deleted them. However, there is probably some way to do it without restarting I tried closing all different programs as well and it never helped.

You probably shouldn't have admitted that your son was downloading warez. The mods don't appreciate when you talk about that sort of thing here.
Not sure about your problem though.

It's cool about mentioning that his son downloaded stuff illegally, no biggie...have you tried restarting before deleteing those files? Make sure Kazaa is actually closed by right clicking on the little "K" in the system tray and closing it properly.
Have you tried deleting them in DOS? Sometimes the old ways work best!

1. what os? if it is windows xp, bring up processes in task manager, (ctrl+alt+del) and end task on explorer.exe then go to file and new task and enter explorer you should be able to delete it then.
2. also make sure the file is not being used, ie being downloaded from you in kazaa
3. with video files, windows will try and create a preview of it (atleast on windowsxp) this can take a few seconds or so. click on the file wait 20 seconds try it again, if that doesnt work, select another file, wait 20 seconds, and then go back and try that.

So did you try the reboot method making sure Kazaa is closed?? And it still didn't work?
Do you have adaware or another backdoor killer... maybe running that would help. Ofcourse if you do that and are running Kazaa then you'd have to reinstall. Hmmm..
Check the properties of each movie and make sure write access is enabled.

OTE: Before doing this, write down the file name and the directory it's stored in.
No problem, I can understand. I'd do this:
1) Restart the machine.
2) When it says 'Sacnning Floppy' and 'Scanning CD drives' for boot sectors or whatnot (right before the Windows logo screen comes up), press F8. Hold F8. If it doesnt come up with a menu screen saying 'choose boot method' or something similar, try using Ctrl instead.
3) Select 'Boot to Safe Mode Command Prompt'.
4) Windows will load, with 1 windows open. The command screen.
5) Type the following:
cd <directory_path>
and press enter. Replace <directory_path> of course with the directory you wrote down. The command you type will look like:
cd \My Shared Folder
If it's not on the C: drive, change it by typing the drive letter first. Like if it were on d:, you'd type:
d:
cd \My Shared Folder
with an enter after every line.
6) Got the file name? (will look like Hulk-=ShareReactor-VinatgeYear=-.avi ) Good. Type this now:
del <file>
and press enter. Replace <file> with whatever the file name is, like:
del Hulk-=ShareReactor-VinatgeYear=-.avi
7) To reboot, type either:
restart
-or-
reboot
and press enter. I can't remember which one for XP, but it's something of the sort.
BTW, I'm assuming you are using Windows NT, 2000, or XP (Home or Pro, doesn't matter). For 95, 98, or ME, thhe driections are different. Reply if you are using 9x/ME, and I will give you those directions.

Is it one of the files with a really long name? If so the only way to get rid of it is to move the folder it's in to C:/,Example
C:/My Shared Folder, and delete the entire folder. You won't be able to delete the file itself,or move it,but you can move the folder it's in.
You may have to do this Via safe mode, but it should work from windows as well.
CAUTION! if you do this, make sure to move all the other files in the folder to a different file, and let all the current downloads complete,or they will be useless.
Hope this solves the problem
