second mobo nic died :(

Ok, are mobo's NICs just cheapo things, or is my case cursed (I'm about to solve that prob). My last mobo a Gigabites KT333 thingys onboard NIC died temporiliy. It just stopped working so I plugged in a PCI NIC and just figured what the heck. Well at a LAN party it started working again and I was like What the heck??? I was happy till I got home and the sound died so I RMA'd the mobo. Well I got a replacement KT400 which was much better then the one I had (thanks newegg ), but it was gigabites and I dont like them anymore so I bought an EPOX 8K9A2+ which is a rulz0r board! It has everything, but about 2 weeks ago its onboard NIC died as well!!!! So here I am in the same place with a second nic in.

These NICS just stop. Windows no longer detects them, and the lights are out. the bios has it enabled... Is it just dead? I didn't care really till I tried usuing RAID since I had to reformat any way do to the PATE virus, and a friends HD freaking my windows install out. The RAID BSOD's windows whenever I do anything except gaming. Games work fine but browsing the web or HD kills it...

Any way is it dead in your guys opinion? Should I RMA the board, this is just getting annoying. I'm getting a new case in a few days as well so the whole case curse thing should be over if thats the issue.

Maybe you've got a bad LAN cable that's haunting you....

My first A7N8X Deluxe's 3com port never worked right for me...only worked for about 5 minutes then I would lose my connection...no matter what drivers I tried.

I had a similar problem that telexen has.
I have a7n8x deluxe and i used the 3com port for internet and it worked ok for a week or so. After that as soon as I connected I could go to one site only and surf around there. Any other site and it would just not be able to connect. It wasn't a specific site that I could go to by the way. It was whatever the first site I typed in was. By the next day I couldn't even ping my router or anything on my network. I just gave up and used the other port =)

so basicly onboard nics are about as good as grape nuts. oy... No wonder many board manufactures are putting two onboard. Makes it so you get twice the normal life (2 weeks instead of 1 )

I have 2 GA7-VRXPs with onboard NICs and have never had even a hiccup out of them. Maybe you have a cable or hub that is popping them?

I have many PC's, all with onbaord Nic, and they all work fine. we had 1 cheap a-open mobo with an onboard nic that cut out if you searched the network... I think it is quality over anything!

Right. Onboard LAN is just as breakable as on-card LAN. It's all in your care or lack thereof toward ESD issues.
